Each year the Marines of Machine Gun Platoon, Anti-Terrorism Battalion work hard to reach out to the communities of Western Mass in order to make the holiday season a little happier for the children in our area. Through the help of many local businesses and orginizations, media, and volunteers we collect and distribute over 100,000 toys with in Western Mass.

Machine Gun Platoon is stationed out of Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, MA. We provide assistance in the counties of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden. During the months of October through December our Marines and volunteers will be collecting new toys from our many drop off sites throughout the region with one goal in mind, to provide a brighter Christmas for disadvantaged children in our area.  But we can't do it alone!

Throughout the year you may see us working at many major Shrine events like our annual Circus at the Big "E" in West Springfield, our Chowder Bowl Football Classic involving local high school All Stars, our annual Springfield Carnival, our famous annual game dinner and various other events which both Shriners and the public are encouraged to attend, many of our events are family oriented because we so highly value the importance of family involvement.

On Wednesday, June 1, 2011 the town of Monson suffered a substantial loss. The picturesque town would be forever changed due to the devastating effects of the tornado that tore through the community. The Monson Tornado Relief Charity Golf Outing was formed in an effort to give back to the community.

Hosted by Rick and Kathy Carr of Monson, this charity gold outing will raise funds to be present...ed to the Town of Monson, Gifts To the Town Account, to be used specifically towards the revitalization of the downtown landscape. All proceeds from this charity golf outing will go directly to this cause.  Check this event out on facebook.

The third annual Southwick Rugged Maniac  is going to be the biggest and baddest yet, so they are opening up a second day of racing on Sunday to meet demand! This five kilometer course loops through the woods and a motocross track. That's right, a motocross track (built for dirt bikes). They have amped it up with barbed wire, tunnels, mud pits, pools of water, barricades, cargo nets, scrambles, swinging pendulums and a host of other obstacles that make this course one rugged gauntlet of glory! When it's all done, you'll have the right to declare "I am a Rugged Maniac!" and you'll get an awesome t-shirt to prove it. So come on out, push your limits and then celebrate with live music, food, beer, and other like-minded Maniacs!
